iPhone users claim Apple’s latest iOS update has made their devices ‘unusable’…but here’s how you can fix it at home

Apple’s continuous iOS updates are rendering some iPhones “unusable” and forcing users to seek help from experts at the tech giant’s stores.

Many of these disgruntled users have turned to social media platforms for help, claiming that the app is crashing or their phones are freezing.

One of these unlucky iPhone owners told DailyMail.com that although his smartphone was updated on Wednesday morning, the screen became unresponsive when he tried to swipe to unlock it.

It wasn’t until she took it to the Apple Store and had it “resurrected” that it started working properly. But there’s no way to fix her crashed iPhone at home using a laptop.

Latest version of iOS 17.4 is making some iPhone owners’ devices ‘nearly unusable’, but there’s a fix

“I woke up this morning and realized that my phone had been updated at some point during the night,” the unlucky iPhone owner told DailyMail.com.

But strangely, her phone displayed a startup screen that said “Hello” in different languages, similar to when you turn on a new iPhone for the first time.

“The bottom of the screen said to swipe up to continue, but the screen was completely unresponsive,” she said. “I tried restarting the device many times, but it didn’t improve.”

“The Apple Store employee told me that the update was probably stuck, fooling my phone into thinking it was still installing, which caused it to become unresponsive,” she continued.

“There was someone in the store across from me who had the same problem,” she added. I think they did the same with him. ”

Apple’s latest operating system for iPhone (iOS 17.4.1) was released “over-the-air” (OTA) starting March 21, 2024.

However, to upgrade to the last software, your iPhone must have a certain amount of battery and be connected to WiFi. Otherwise, the system will be updated automatically.

And it looks like those who have been waiting to download have been hit by a bug.

“My Uber app literally won’t open and is stuck on the app’s start page,” one iPhone owner reported on Reddit.

“Even after reinstalling, restarting my phone, and doing a hard reset, it still doesn’t work.”

They added that their cell phones were “almost unusable.”

One commenter noted that the phone’s audio stopped randomly, the AirPods wouldn’t switch between devices, and even the keyboard was buggy.

DailyMail.com reached out to Apple to find out why users are experiencing these issues.

To resolve this issue, Apple Store staff connects the iPhone to a laptop and completely reinstalls iOS.

According to reports from users on social media, this fix works even if you have already downloaded iOS 17.4.1.

Over-the-air (OTA) updates are sent by Apple and uploaded to your device over the internet, so you don’t need to connect your phone to your computer

According to Reddit users, this can even be done at home.

One user reported that a revised version of iOS 17.4.1 is available through iTunes and that Apple secretly released it.

You can download this revised version by connecting your phone to your computer and downloading the iOS update in iTunes.

When Apple sends you these OTA updates, they’re uploaded to your device over the Internet, so you don’t need to connect your phone to your computer.

However, OTA updates are not immediately available for all users.

OTA updates typically require the device to be connected to WiFi rather than mobile data.Sufficient free storage space is also required

OTA updates typically require your device to connect over WiFi rather than mobile data, even if your iPhone is set to automatically keep up to date, and if you have enough free storage space. Is required.

If any of these conditions are not met, updates will be delayed. This is why some people are only now encountering problems, even though iOS 17.4.1 was released more than two weeks ago.

Typically, with OTA updates, you will receive a push notification during the day alerting you that the update will begin at night. Then you wake up the next morning and receive a notification that the update has been made.

However, in this case, if your iPhone behaves worse after the update, you may need to run the update again with a revised version of iOS 17.4.1.

According to Reddit users who tried it themselves, running an update on their computer resolved the issue.
