The most affordable iPhone is currently the third-generation iPhone SE. Although we probably won’t see an updated version until early next year, a new claim suggests that high-end elements like the Dynamic Island found in the iPhone 15 series could be included in the entry-level model. That’s what it means. That’s a surprise.
This report comes from a prolific leaker Majinbu, who posted on X. This leaker has a decent track record, it’s not perfect, but it’s certainly strong enough to make it worth listening to.
If you’ve used an iPhone SE, you know that Apple takes the design of the older iPhone and updates it with a new processor. In many cases, that’s most of the change. The original, released in 2016, was based on the iPhone 5s. The 2nd generation SE arrived in 2020 and was modeled after the iPhone 8. The current 3rd generation version will arrive in 2022 and looks exactly the same as the 2nd generation.
Therefore, reports of iPhones that look nothing like previous models were unexpected. A new report claims that the next SE will be based on a yet-to-be-released phone, the iPhone 16, which will be released this fall, but Majintake then backtracked a bit and said, “The information mentioned… Even…it shouldn’t be taken too seriously.” As I said earlier, it could happen. ”
First of all, basing the SE design on the current model would be a major strategic change for Apple. That’s how Google works, though, and the next Pixel 8a is expected to look a bit like the Pixel 8.
But Apple has never done anything like that, so I think it’s unlikely. And as mentioned above, a new report claims that it will come with Dynamic Islands, which is a premium feature that just arrived on the regular iPhone 15.
A previous rumor from MacRumors claimed that the new SE would resemble last year’s iPhone 14, which makes a lot of sense.
Both reports claim that the dual snapper on the base phone will be replaced with a single camera. That’s possible, but still not very convincing.
Apple’s technique to keep the SE’s price down is likely to be taking the original design and changing little except perhaps the color. The big change is always the processor, which is always upgraded to the latest generation of chips. I believe that’s what Apple will do again.
As the leaker hints, we’re a long way from the expected release and things will change a lot.
There is one thing that seems overwhelmingly likely. That means the current iPhone SE will most certainly be the last iPhone to feature Touch ID on the front of the phone. No matter what it looks like, Face ID is definitely a strong candidate for the next iPhone SE.
