iPhone personal hotspot not working? Try these 10 fixes

Personal Hotspot on iPhone lets you share your phone’s Internet connection with other devices. However, this feature tends to malfunction, making it difficult to maintain a stable connection. Let’s take a look at how to troubleshoot these connectivity issues.

Turn personal hotspot and cellular data off and on

Tethering uses cellular data to provide internet connectivity to other devices. You can often troubleshoot connectivity issues with your hotspot by turning it off and then turning it back on. To do this, go to Settings and select Mobile Services.

Select

Tap the Mobile Data slider to turn it off, then turn it back on. This will reset your cellular connection.

Turn off

[設定]Return to the menu,[個人用ホットスポット]Select[他のユーザーの参加を許可]toggle off or on.

Setting up a personal hotspot[他のユーザーの参加を許可する]Choose.

Now search for the hotspot again and try connecting.

Turn on maximum compatibility

New iPhones use the latest Wi-Fi standards for faster connections. However, if you have an older device that isn’t optimized for newer wireless standards, your device may not recognize your iPhone’s hotspot. That’s where the “Maximize Compatibility” feature comes into play.

Turning on Maximum Compatibility will disconnect you from the 2.4GHz band (instead of the 5GHz band). This may slow down your internet speed, but it will allow older devices to connect to your hotspot. To turn on Maximum Compatibility, go to Settings and select Personal Hotspot.

Select

Scroll down and tap the Maximize Compatibility slider to turn it on.

Turn on Maximize compatibility.

Then search for hotspots again and try to reconnect.

Check your data plan

If you’re connected to a hotspot but have poor internet connectivity, your mobile data plan may have expired. As mentioned earlier, hotspots use mobile data for internet connectivity, so you need to make sure you have a valid plan to maintain a stable connection. Contact your carrier to check your balance and renew your plan.

Check if your carrier has disabled tethering

Many carriers offer tethering services for free, while others require hotspot functionality to be added to your cell phone plan. If you are facing this issue, you will find that the tethering option is grayed out in your iPhone settings. For detailed instructions on enabling tethering, check your carrier’s FAQ or contact their support team.

Disable VPN

If a VPN is enabled on your iPhone, the hotspot feature may also malfunction. VPNs are known to cause network issues, so you can try disabling this feature as a troubleshooting measure. To disable VPN,[設定]>[一般]Proceed to[VPN とデバイス管理]Choose.

Select

Select VPN.

Select your VPN under VPN & Device Management to toggle your connection.

Tap VPN Status to turn off the feature.

Turn off VPN on your iPhone.

You can also disable this feature using your VPN supplier’s app.

Restart your iPhone

Restarting your iPhone can resolve many software glitches, including hotspot issues. You can also try toggling airplane mode to update your network, but ultimately a reboot is your best option.

iPhone doesn’t have a restart option, so you have to turn off the device and then turn it back on. To restart your iPhone, press and hold the power button and volume down button until you see the power off slider. Drag the power slider to the right to turn off your device, wait a few seconds, then press and hold the power button until you see the Apple logo.

You can also ask Siri to “restart my iPhone” and tap the button that appears on the screen.

Update your iPhone

Apple regularly releases new software updates. These updates fix software defects that may affect Personal Hotspot functionality. Updating your iPhone regularly can help resolve any connectivity issues you may be facing. To update your iPhone, go to Settings > General and select Software Update.

Select

Your device will quickly search for new updates. If found, click Update Now to update your iPhone.

Select Update Now under iPhone Software Update.

Use a different connection method

If your hotspot still doesn’t work, try one of the other connection methods available on your iPhone. For example, if you have a USB cord, you can connect your iPhone directly to your Mac or PC and share the Internet connection with your device. You can also try Bluetooth tethering options by wirelessly pairing another device with your iPhone.

Reset network settings

If you’ve tried everything and still can’t connect to your hotspot, consider resetting your network settings. This will restore your factory network settings, including removing any passwords stored on the Wi-Fi network you are connected to. To reset your network settings, go to Settings and select General.

Select

Scroll down and select “Transfer or Reset iPhone”.

Select

Select Reset, then tap Reset network settings.

Select

Finally, avoid putting your iPhone to sleep

If you just turned on Hotspot on your iPhone and haven’t connected it yet, make sure your iPhone doesn’t go to sleep while you’re at it. In some cases, this can cause the hotspot feature to fail and require you to wake your phone and turn it back on.

Once connected, you should be able to put your iPhone to sleep, but be aware that sharing your Internet connection will consume more battery than usual.
