One IPHONE owner was confused after discovering a mysterious ‘P’ symbol next to Chat.
Confused gadget fans spotted the symbol in their Messages app and couldn’t figure out what it meant.
That’s no surprise. This is not obvious and only appears to certain her iPhone owners.
A user shared a photo of the problem on Reddit and wrote, “What does this icon mean? I’ve never seen it before. It may be new, it may be obvious, but I just don’t understand it.” ” he wrote.
This “P” symbol appears in a small box next to your message chat and has a very useful meaning.
One wise user replied, “It’s dual SIM. It tells you which SIM you received that message from.”
Another user wrote, “Only visible in dual SIM mode. This is the first letter of the SIM’s ‘Cellular Plan Label’ located in Settings > Cellular > eSIM.
“By the way, you can change this. The default is ‘Primary’. ”
Dual SIM means your iPhone has two SIM cards (both may be eSIMs) loaded.
To avoid confusion about which chats are associated with which numbers, Apple indicates it in text.
So if your main SIM’s name is “Personal” in settings, you’ll see a “P”.
Also, if you have a second SIM named “Work” in your settings, chats associated with that number will display a “W”. Next To them.
“Use one number for business and another number for personal calls,” Apple explains.
“Both phone numbers allow you to make and receive voice and FaceTime calls, and send and receive messages using iMessage, SMS, and MMS.
“iPhone can use one cellular data network at a time.”
When unlocked, you can only use two different carriers on your iPhone.
Otherwise, you’ll need to make sure both plans are from the same carrier.
