iPhone owner who discovered ‘great’ trick to type super fast says it’s ‘definitely a lifesaver’

Stop wasting so much time typing. There’s a faster way.

Apple fans have discovered a neat iPhone trick that lets you tap on important messages in seconds.

It uses an often overlooked iOS feature that comes preinstalled on every iPhone.

This feature is called Text Replacement, and it lets you quickly insert key phrases or even entire sentences or paragraphs.

For example, you can set up text replacement so that typing @@ inserts an email address.

When the trick was posted in a thread on Reddit, one iPhone fan responded, “Oh yeah. Definitely a lifesaver.”

“Set up text substitutions that let you enter words and phrases by just typing a few letters,” Apple explains.

“For example, to type ‘On the way!’ type ‘omw’.

“This is already configured, but you can also add your own.”

How to create text replacements on iPhone

First, go to an app that supports text input, such as Apple’s Messages.

Then, press and hold the smiley face or globe icon in the corner.

Then tap Keyboard Settings > Text Replacement, then tap the plus (+) icon in the top right.

Enter your phrase and text shortcut and save.

Good ideas for text substitutions include @@ for emails and aaa for home addresses.

Setting up text substitutions can greatly reduce the time it takes to export these chunks of text.

Also, if iCloud Drive is turned on, your personal dictionary will sync across your other Apple devices.

Just go to Settings > [ Your Name ] > Click iCloud to check your iCloud Drive settings.

If you change your mind and want to reset your keyboard, it’s also very easy.
