iPhone 16 Pro’s ultra-thin bezels cause production issues

As many of you may already know, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are reported to have ultra-thin bezels. Apple is said to be using the “Border Reduction Structure” technique to achieve this. However, according to the latest reports, the iPhone 16 Pro’s ultra-thin bezels seem to be causing problems for Apple.

To be exact? Well, it seems that there is a problem, or rather an issue, on the production side of things. This information comes from the Korean publication The Elec. However, LG Display and Samsung Display are said to have problems with BRS.


LG Display and Samsung Display are Apple’s display suppliers. The border reduction structure method is basically a technology for displays. To achieve the desired result, “the circuitry under the bezel would have to be placed more tightly and some wiring would have to be bent down, which would be technically challenging.”




The report goes on to say that “no company has stabilized iPhone OLED production rates to the level expected by Apple.” Samsung Display appears to be the main supplier for the iPhone 16 series. LG Display will only supply panels for the “Pro” model, while BOE will provide panels for the vanilla model.

Previous issues with BRS are said to be resolved.

According to a report from last month that mentioned BRS, the wiring technology can create overheating concerns. 9to5Mac reports that the issue has been resolved. A new thermally controlled heat dissipation technology is used.

But I wonder if BRS is worth the trouble. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max already have very thin bezels. The thickness is 1.55mm. I’m curious how thin it will be when using BRS. If the difference is minimal and likely to be, it may not even be worth the trouble.

Apple apparently wants its new phones to stand out in some way. Otherwise, it looks basically the same as the previous model, especially in the case of the “Pro” version. However, it is expected to have a slightly larger display. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will have 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch panels, respectively.
