iPhone 16 production reportedly faces problems due to new ultra-thin bezel design

The iPhone 16 appears to be facing manufacturing issues due to a purported new ultra-thin bezel design. Manufacturers have struggled to produce displays that meet Apple’s standards.

According to a report from The Elec, no manufacturer has been able to produce these new display panels for the iPhone 16 and meet Apple’s high quality standards. LG Display and Samsung Display are two of the display giants in the tech world, but they are struggling to even produce these display panels.

The issue appears to be caused by Apple’s new Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology. It’s all about making the iPhone 16’s bezels thinner, but that also complicates the manufacturing process. There was talk about bending the circuit and everyone was probably worried that the phone would overheat. But there’s no need to worry. That’s because Apple and its merry band of suppliers have allegedly invented heat dissipation technology that controls heat to lower temperatures. According to Sisa Journale.

Reporting on production issues, The Elec explains:

The OLED in the iPhone 16 series applies Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology, which makes the bottom bezel thinner. Achieving a thin bezel requires the circuitry under the bezel to be placed closer together, and some wiring must be bent downwards, which increases the technical difficulty. It is known that no company has stabilized the iPhone’s OLED production rate to the level expected by Apple.

iPhone 16 is also in development

Additionally, in the report, The Elec states that four new OLED displays are coming. That’s because the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be slightly larger than the current models at 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, while the regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to maintain the same size of 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches.

Apple is expected to announce its new iPhone lineup at its usual September keynote. Meanwhile, the next confirmed Apple event is his WWDC 2024, which starts on June 10th and should tease the introduction of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2.
