Apple has kept the camera design of Pro iPhones largely the same since the launch of the iPhone 11 Pro, but there could be major changes with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
According to leak information this Majinbua person posting on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that the iPhone 16 Pro (and possibly the iPhone 16 Pro Max as well) will have a triangular camera block.
In other words, the square block of the iPhone 15 Pro remains the same, but the lenses inside it now fit inside a raised triangle instead of sticking out individually from the square. You can see what this looks like in the post below.
As for the latest news, I have had the opportunity to refer to various resources, both of which claim that the new iPhone 16 Pro will have a redesigned design. You can see that the flash and LiDAR scanner are inside the square, but not inside the triangle that just houses the three lenses.
It looks a little weird here, but the image is just for “demonstration purposes” and the information Bu has received is simply that the design “has a triangular shape” and “resembles a razor.” As shown in the photo. So even if this leak is accurate, the exact design may differ slightly from this image.
Apparently this design change “will allow us to add more cameras to the module in the future,” but it’s not clear how the raised triangle will help with that.
An unlikely update
But we deal with this leakage with a lot of salt. The sources have varying track records and claim that there is “no way to verify that this information is 100% accurate or true.”
Even worse, another leaker (@URedditor) replied claiming that this design was not authentic, and then went on to say, “Unless they develop an alternative backplate design in complete secrecy, it’s possible, but highly unlikely.”
So for now, we suspect this is not the camera design for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. But I wouldn’t rule this out completely, as it’s certainly time for an update to the camera design.
The iPhone 16 Pro will likely be released in September along with the rest of the iPhone 16 series, so we won’t be sure about the iPhone 16 Pro’s design for a while. But we’re sure to hear more rumors and leaks before then.
