Weibo leaker Setsuna Digital claims that one of the most impressive engineering features of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could be their display bezels.
After conducting its own measurements, Setsuna claims that the iPhone 16 Pro will have a 1.2mm bezel around its display, while the Pro Max will have just a 1.15mm bezel. To illustrate the difference, the company also claims that the iPhone 15 Pro has a 1.71mm bezel, meaning the iPhone 16 Pro will have a 30% smaller bezel.
These figures make the iPhone 16 Pro models the “world’s thinnest” bezels, beating out the Galaxy S24 Ultra and its 1.5mm bezels. It’s likely that the Galaxy S25, or more precisely the Galaxy S25 Ultra, will beat this record, but if this is true, the iPhone will likely hold onto the title for at least a few more months.
We were hoping for news that the iPhone 16 Pro would have smaller bezels thanks to previous rumors that Apple had ordered its suppliers to use a border reduction structure process that would make the copper lines under the screen more compact. However, the technology has proven difficult to manufacture correctly in sufficient quantities, which is probably why it’s only being used on the Pro models and not the regular iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Plus.
The disappearing bezel incident
Shrinking the border around the new iPhones’ displays may not be as meaningful an update as other rumored upgrades like improved photography capabilities, such as a 48MP ultra-wide camera, a larger main sensor, a new capture button, and a revamped chipset.
But minimizing bezel width means more display in the same size frame. And with the iPhone 16 Pro models rumored to be growing to 6.3 and 6.9 inches, respectively, narrower bezels would eliminate just how much the phone itself needs to be. Plus, the bragging rights when comparing iPhones to Androids can’t be ignored.
