The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro come with a variety of small design tweaks, and some dummy units used by case makers provide a quick glance at upcoming features.
iPhone 16 may come with new features such as capture button
The dummy unit is an industry tool used to ensure that prototype cases fit future iPhone designs. However, there is no way to know if the dummy unit is genuine, and depending on the case manufacturer, you may end up getting the wrong one.
Sonny Dickson posted a photo of a dummy unit for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max on X. The metal unit exhibits many of the features rumored to be expected from the product.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are nearly identical to their iPhone 15 counterparts, with the exception of the capture button. We expect these models to have slightly larger displays, but it’s difficult to see that from the photos.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have a new vertical camera bump similar to iPhone X, but the flash is on the outside of the bump. These models also display action and capture buttons.
Vertical camera bump allows the base model to capture spatial video with Apple Vision Pro. The capture button on all four models is mechanical and is expected to be used for the camera app.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 16 lineup at an event in September 2024. It is expected to feature a next-generation chipset with upgraded Apple AI features and improved camera specifications.
