International travel shakes up the list of the world’s busiest airports

CAccording to Airports Council International (ACI)’s just-released list of the world’s top 10 busiest airports in 2023, the number of passengers who traveled by air last year fell to 8.5 billion.

Overall passenger numbers increased by 27% from 2022, driven by a 37% increase in the international travel market. This is nearly double his 20% increase in domestic travel. What’s even more remarkable is how the shift to tourist attractions is upsetting the global order of airports.

The increase is not surprising, as last year was a bumper year for travel spending. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, tourists around the world will inject nearly $10 trillion into the global economy in 2023. This figure corresponds to 9.1% of global GDP.

After analyzing data from more than 2,600 airports in more than 180 countries and territories around the world, ACI World found that Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International remained at the top of the list of busiest airports. The airport has held the number one spot for over 20 years. Her four other airports in the United States are also in the top 10. Dallas-Fort Worth moved one spot down from him, putting him in third place. Denver fell three spots to sixth place. Los Angeles fell two spots to eighth place.
