Indian government issues massive security alert to iPhone, iPad, Mac users: Here’s what you should do

Apple users in India received a new security alert this week from the Indian government’s Nodal Security Authority. Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) has issued a high severity alert dated April 2, 2024. This security issue is critical because it affects key parts of Apple devices, including iPhones and Macs. Here we provide details about this vulnerability, the devices affected, and how to protect your iPhone from possible threats.

Apple security issue: Which devices are affected?

– Apple Safari versions earlier than 17.4.1

– Apple macOS Ventura versions earlier than 13.6.6

– For Apple macOS Sonoma versions earlier than 14.4.1

– ApplevisionOS versions earlier than 1.1.1

– Apple iOS and iPadOS versions earlier than 17.4.1

– For Apple iOS and iPadOS versions earlier than 16.7.7

Apple software versions affected by the security issue include the latest devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Vision Pro headset. The list also includes various iPad and iPad Pro models and their respective software versions. Users of older iPhone models such as the 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X should also be aware of this vulnerability.

Apple Security Alert April 2024: Content

As noted by CERT-In, these security vulnerabilities exist in Apple products and could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on a targeted system.

This vulnerability exists in Apple products due to an out-of-bounds write issue in WebRTC and CoreMedia. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a victim to access a specially crafted request.
