On December 12, 2023, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis spoke to The Associated Press in an interview.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was subpoenaed by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan to provide documents regarding the use and expenditure of federal funds, according to a copy of the subpoena obtained by CNN.
Willis is the Georgia district attorney who brought the 2020 election destruction case against former President Donald Trump.
The subpoena is part of a broader investigation by Jordan, an Ohio Republican, focused on Willis’ use of federal funds.
House Republicans are also investigating unsubstantiated allegations that Willis had an inappropriate romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, the lead prosecutor in the Georgia election destruction case, according to Jordan’s previous letter. .
The letter piggybacked on claims made by former President Donald Trump and two of his co-defendants as part of an effort to dismiss criminal charges in Georgia and disqualify Willis from the case.
Mr. Willis has denied Mr. Jordan’s previous requests for documents.
The initial court filing containing the allegations did not present any direct evidence of an inappropriate relationship between Willis and Wade. Neither Mr. Wade nor Mr. Willis commented. Prosecutors said they would respond in court filings ahead of Friday’s deadline.
Co-defendant Mike Roman, a former Trump campaign official who filed the initial motion, accused Willis of profiting financially from his alleged relationship with Wade, who has claimed that Wade has lost any proceeds from the lawsuit. It is believed that he used it for vacation.
Jordan’s previous letter relied heavily on accusations and requests for Wade to produce documents and communications that House Republicans believe are related to overseeing “politically motivated prosecutions of state and local officials.” was.
Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee have long sought to undermine the credibility of Willis’ case against Trump and more than a dozen co-defendants.
The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has denied many of Jordan’s previous requests for documents.
