North Carolina (+4)
The Tar Heels did what they needed to do in their first two games, defeating Fairfield 19-8 and defeating Mercer in an impressive manner. In the game at Georgetown Prep (Md.), Dominic Pietramala had five goals and two assists, Owen Duffy had three goals and four assists, and Logan McGovern had three goals and two assists.
Of course, North Carolina State didn’t have much trouble doing what it needed to do last year against less talented teams. The person who caused it was a well-known enemy. And one of them (the one they happened to win at the beginning of last season) is on their way to Chapel Hill on Saturday when visiting Johns Hopkins University. There should be a lot to learn about the Tar Heels next weekend.

Rutgers (-5)
The Scarlet Knights opened with losses to Lehigh and Stony Brook, but visiting Army was thought to be a better barometer. It probably wasn’t the way Rutgers expected it to be.
The Scarlet Knights didn’t have much success, going 10-of-27 on faceoffs (Army star Will Colletti was 17-of-25) and not scoring on their first eight shots. Ta. Rutgers had just 16 shots on goal all afternoon, but it wasn’t ideal for their opponents to score 16 times. This is one thing he is difficult to resolve in mid-February.
Is it a reflection of how good Army was, how far Rutgers has to go, or both? The easy opinion, and probably the correct one, is to argue that it is her third choice. But clearly, the Scarlet Knights have some work to do.
Loyola (-4)
The Greyhounds suffered a 13-7 loss to Charles Street rival Johns Hopkins, committing 20 turnovers and seven missed completions, snapping consecutive losses against top-10 opponents. After dropping 18 goals in the season opener against Georgetown, Loyola has scored 11 total over the past two weekends against the Blue Jays and Maryland. The great thing about Loyola is that they run an ambitious non-conference schedule every year. But depending on the year, it can be less fun to navigate. This game, which hosts Rutgers on Saturday, will obviously be a statement game for both teams.

Harvard University (17th place)
The Crimson made quite an impression on Ivy League Opening Day, defeating Providence 23-7, scoring 10 consecutive goals spanning part of the first three quarters. For Harvard, Graham Blake had six points and Teddy Malone added five points and one assist. This was the Crimson’s best performance since defeating the University of Vermont 24-6 in 1998. Harvard is scheduled to play two games a week. Mr. Bryant visited on Tuesday before meeting with Mr. Bucknell in Wilton, Conn., on Saturday.
Ohio State University (16th)
The Buckeyes defeated Air Force by three points Saturday, 12-4, for their first win outside of Columbus in nearly two years. And at 4-0, they are closing in on their 2023 overall season win total. Ohio State holds opponents to 19.8 percent shooting, with junior Ben Meyer scoring four goals and sophomore Dillon McGee adding three goals and an assist. He has yet to allow a goal in eight man-down situations.

Pen (17th place)
The Quakers lost the first five goals to Georgetown, 12-9, but the Hoyas didn’t put much pressure on the Hoyas as they couldn’t get closer than two goals in the final three quarters. Ta. The Pens are full of energy in February, but the team in the third game has a built-in advantage compared to the team in the opener. Also, the concern for the first game is that he is 7-of-24 in faceoffs. Still, the pen isn’t finished yet. The three-game homestand continues this week with visits from Albany and Delaware State.

The Terriers lost a 12-6 decision at home to Bryant on Friday in the most recent NCAA Tournament automatic qualifying matchup with New England. For a team that struggled last week, Boston College was only 4 of 22 on his X. Next up for the Terriers is a trip to Brown on Tuesday.
