High Point women’s lacrosse coach Lindsey Boswell was diagnosed with cancer last month, the news of which was revealed Monday on a GoFundMe page set up by Panthers men’s lacrosse coach John Torpey and his wife, Tegan. .
“This news has been incredibly difficult for Lindsay, her wonderful family, and everyone who knew her to understand,” the post said. “If you’re lucky enough to know Lindsey, she’s one of the toughest, most genuine and caring people to ever walk this earth.”
As of Monday morning, GoFundMe has already raised more than $5,000 toward a $150,000 goal to ease the financial burden on Boswell-Workman and her family. “She has a long road ahead of her,” Torpey said in an email.
Boswell released a statement through the university Monday afternoon.
“We are so grateful for the support we are receiving right now,” she said. “My heart is overflowing. My faith is strong and I look forward to tackling treatment head-on and resolving this issue as soon as possible. In the meantime, my priorities remain my family and team. is.
“Our staff is fully prepared and our players are excited for the championship season. We will receive all the help you can give.”
Boswell will continue coaching the team this spring while undergoing treatment. The Panthers, chosen by the coaches after finishing second in the Big South preseason poll, open the 2024 season at home against Duke on Sunday and are included in the American Lacrosse Division I Women’s Preseason Top 20.
Blue Devils coach Kerstin Kimmel is a cancer survivor who coached during the 2015 season while undergoing treatment for early-stage breast cancer.
