TL;DR

  • Google has been working on revamping the chat bubbles experience for large-screen devices since early last year, and the feature is only now starting to work.
  • Android natively supports Messenger-like chat bubbles since Android 11, but this feature currently doesn’t scale well on large-screen devices like tablets.
  • The new chat bubble experience isn’t available yet, but we were able to activate it a little early to show you what it’s like.

Messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram are some of the most popular apps on Android, so it’s no surprise that the OS comes with features specifically designed to improve your messaging experience. One of these features is actually a copy of what Meta’s Messenger app developed years ago: chat bubbles. Android added the Chat Bubbles API over three years ago in Android 11, but this feature has remained largely unchanged since its initial release. That looks set to change in the near future, as Google is finally preparing to update its chat bubbles experience on large-screen devices like tablets.

Ann APK disassembly It helps predict features that may be added to the service in the future based on the code in progress. However, such predicted features may not be publicly released.

If you open a conversation in a chat bubble on your Android tablet today, it will look and function exactly the same as on your Android phone. This means chat bubbles are stuck to the left or right side of the screen, making them difficult to access on wider tablets. Google’s solution to this problem is to add a “bubble bar”, a small bar fixed to the bottom right corner of the screen. Chat bubbles are pinned to the bubble bar when you create them, and by default they don’t appear on your screen until you swipe up on the bar.

After swiping up on the bubble bar, you can switch between active bubbles by tapping the conversation icon. You can also tap the “+” button to view recent and closed bubbles. Finally, to close the bubble, tap the title bar to display a pop-up menu with three buttons. Don’t stir up conversation, App settingsand close bubble.

Android’s bubble bar has been in development since the QPR2 release of Android 13 in early 2023, but it wasn’t until the latest release of Android 14’s first QPR3 beta that the feature finally started working. Unfortunately, the bubble bar feature is not yet enabled by default, so I had to manually tinker with the update to feature it in this article.

It’s unclear when Google plans to release the Bubble Bar feature, but the feature could arrive with the stable release of Android 14 QPR3 in June, or with the full release of Android 15 later this fall. . Bubble bars may first arrive on large-screen Android devices like the Pixel Tablet, but Google says it could also be enabled on other Android devices that have the taskbar enabled, like the Pixel Fold.
