“Along with our partners at NASA Glenn Research Center, we are thrilled to welcome the world to Cleveland, Ohio,” said Carsten Ellenbogen, president and CEO of Great Lakes Science Center. There are also people doing great practical work.” Around science, around engineering, around art. ”

Sarah Gordon, an intern at NASA Glenn Research Center, works in the Graphics and Visualization Lab and guides aspiring scientists into the world of augmented and virtual reality. This is a great tool to help teach kids about the technology being built in their city.

“This is really great because not only is VR used internally at NASA, but it’s also a great tool for us to reach youth and show the public what we’re working on. Because it is,” she said.

In another exhibit, a remote-controlled vehicle drives along sandy deposits to simulate NASA robots crossing other planets and moons. Alex Schepelman, a robotics engineer at NASA Glenn, gives kids the freedom to flip and crash cars to test their results.

“We’re attaching motion tracking packs to remote-controlled cars, and we’re tracking them as they move through space with these four infrared cameras. And the idea is that all of that will help us improve the design of robots. ,” Schepelman said.

For Gordon, his passion for science and technology dates back to childhood.

“The future of STEM is similar to that of young people, so it’s really great to be able to share with them the experiences that I loved as a child.”

“Hopefully, we can end the day with a few more future scientists and engineers than we started with,” Schepelman said.

Total Eclipse Fest 2024 will be held at Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor from April 6th to 8th.
