CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Small businesses have long been essential to the Texas economy, and simply helping them grow strengthens our communities. That’s certainly the case in Corpus Christi, which is why the city is currently partnering with the state to give small businesses a big boost.
Each month, Gov. Greg Abbott selects a region within the state and works with the region and the Texas Workforce Commission to host a small business summit.
Corpus Christi will be approved on April 18th.
Joe Escobar, senior management analyst for the Corpus Christi Economic Development Authority, told 3NEWS that the number of local small businesses is increasing.
“This is a new trend, and what we’re starting to see in Corpus Christi, is more entrepreneurship, people wanting to start their own companies,” Escobar said.

“There will also be panel sessions and question-and-answer sessions that you can participate in,” Escobar said. “It’s an all-day event, so you can get a lot of fun for $20.”
But most importantly, participants will be able to listen to experts.
Assistant City Manager Heather Hurlburt spoke at the City Council’s weekly meeting about strong small business startups and topics such as “Strategies for Starting and Growing a Small Business” and “Access to Capital.” He said that it is an essential part of management. ”, “The latest in small business marketing” and “Cybersecurity: Protecting your company in the digital economy”.
The Better Business Bureau will feature a final panel on cybersecurity.
Katie Galan, BBB’s director of education and community engagement, said no matter how hard you work, what happens online can be critical to whether you keep or lose customers.
“This is really about maintaining our reputation and ensuring that we continue to be seen as a trustworthy company so that consumers can be informed and know that their information will not fall into the wrong hands,” Galan said. he said.
The summit will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. at the American Bank Center.
