Gemini is gearing up to become an even bigger part of the Android ecosystem, as its AI toggle switch could soon be coming to Google’s official apps. Evidence of this update was discovered in a recent beta by industry insider His AssembleDebug, who subsequently shared his findings with news site Pianika Web.
This feature may appear as a toggle switch just above the search bar. Flip the switch and the standard search interface turns into a Gemini interface where you can type prompts, talk to models, upload images, and more. According to Android Authority, if you haven’t already done so, turning on AI will display a window asking for permission to do so.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because the Google app on iOS has had the same feature since early February. Enabling this feature on either operating system will make Gemini replace her Google Assistant as your go-to helper on the Internet.
Gemini’s new role
You can switch back and forth between the two at any time. It’s not a permanent fixture or anything – at least not yet. Google is making its AI more visible on smartphones and its own platforms. Hints have recently surfaced that Gemini may be getting a summary tool and reply suggestions in Gmail.
You can make the Gemini toggle switch appear on your Android smartphone. AssembleDebug has published a step-by-step guide on TheSpAndroid, but the process can take a long time. Even if you follow all these steps, it might not work, so it’s better to wait until the switch is officially rolled out.
There’s no word on when that will happen. However, the feature may make its official debut during the Google I/O 2024 event next month. The tech giant is preparing something big and we can’t wait to see what it is.
