Google is working on new Android features to protect you from phishing attacks and malware.
Android expert Mishaal Rahman has learned about the “Android Safe Browsing” page that appears on some Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices. According to the screenshots submitted, Safe Browsing alerts users to security threats. “For example, if you tap a link in a news app that leads to a known phishing site, you may receive a warning.”

On the same page, users also discovered the feature ‘Use live threat protection’. Turning this on apparently guarantees “more accurate threat detection”.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, phishing scams often occur in the form of emails or text messages. These include urgent actions such as clicking a link to update your payment information or verify your identity based on suspected suspicious activity.
Online phishing scams and things to be aware of
Rahman explained that Android Safe Browsing likely works by cross-checking apps and sites through Google Play Services’ list of known threats via the SafetyNet Safe Browsing API. Google Play Services provides functionality and is automatically included as part of Android updates. According to Tech Radar, the alert will notify you about suspicious links so you can decide whether to proceed.
Google has already started rolling out this feature, as this page appears in some users’ privacy and security settings. Android users who have not yet received this feature should remain vigilant and avoid clicking on incomplete links.
