Google Photos is developing a new feature called “Storage Recovery” that aims to address common storage space issues for Android users.

Currently, users can save images in their original quality or in a compressed “storage saver” format, but this only applies to newly added files.
“Storage Recovery” feature to compress existing files
Manually enabling the ‘Storage Recovery’ feature will allow users to reduce the size of existing photos/videos stored in the app’s cloud storage.
This feature is demonstrated in the screenshot under the “Manage Storage” menu, specifically under the “Storage Recovery” heading.
This option is labeled “Convert Photos to Storage Saver” and has a short description: “Recover some of your storage by switching your existing original quality to Storage Saver quality” .
Previously, such compression was only possible in Google Photos for the web.
Access to features in future updates
The “Storage Recovery” feature is not yet available, but once launched in a future update, users will be able to access it via the “Photo Settings” > “Backup” > “Manage Storage” > “Convert Photos to Storage Saver” route. It is scheduled to become.
