If you frequently take photos or record videos, you’ll likely reach Google Photos’ free 15 GB storage limit sooner or later. While purchasing additional space is an option, the tech company also offers a free alternative to compress your backup photos and videos to reduce their size. This feature was only available on the web, but it looks like it will be available on Android as well.
APK teardowns help predict features that may be delivered to a service in the future based on the code in progress. However, such predicted features may not be publicly released.
In the latest version of the Google Photos app, we discovered a string of code that appears to refer to the Google Photos storage saver setting. This setting allows users to choose the backup quality of photos and videos. When you select this setting, files are permanently saved at a reduced size to save storage space.
This feature is available on the web, but this is the first time we’ve added this option to Android. It also seems to work the same way as it does on the web. This means that photos over 16MP will be downsized to 16MP, and videos over 1080p will be downsized to 1080p. All details can be found on Google’s support page.
