Google Photos started rolling out a native Android 14 share sheet in October, rather than a custom implementation, but it doesn’t appear to be widely available on Pixel phones.
Android 14 allows developers to add application-specific actions to system share sheets. Google Photos has long used a custom implementation with a “Send to Google Photos” carousel of people and a shortcut to create a “New Group.” This is followed by the top buttons “Nearby Share” and “Create link,” followed by “Share to Apps” at the bottom.
Google Photos is currently replacing custom implementations with native implementations. The “Share Image” sheet has a preview and supports multiple photos. Next, a carousel of actions will appear: Create Link, Send Photo, Add to Album, Create Album.
Following this, you’ll see the usual Direct Share target and app grid, which you can access by scrolling up.
In mid-October, Android 14’s Google Photos share sheet was widely rolled out only to Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. All Pixel phones, including the Fold, are currently running version 6.71 of Google Photos. However, it won’t appear on Pixel Tablets or Samsung smartphones running Android 14.
Meanwhile, Google is also rolling out an auto-grouping stack and a system photo picker that supports Google Photos more broadly.
