Google is starting to roll out a Maps redesign that gives more space to various aspects of the UI. As spotted by 9to5Google, the company is pushing updates marked as version numbers. 11.113.x Although it is available on Android, it is said to not be popular yet. This download significantly changes the way users experience map routing.
The UI no longer covers the entire display. Additionally, this bar is only used to enter the address of the destination.
Another part of this is the list of transportation options available to the user. The redesign has moved this option line to the bottom of the map’s UI, making it easier to access. Additionally, swiping up to expand a submenu no longer stretches the entire display, allowing users to still see most of their potential routes.

Another aspect of this redesign includes the Google Maps location information page. A new information menu appears at the bottom and can expand towards the top of the display without consuming it completely. Google also includes a “close” and share button for your convenience.
This update was only recently discovered, so it may take a while for everyone to be aware of it. The publication adds that iOS users will also get this update, but it’s unclear when it will arrive.
Google Maps introduced several features earlier this year, including identifying food based on users’ photos. Users checking reviews from a restaurant’s Photos tab can now learn about the products they’ve photographed by matching Google to the restaurant’s menu. The map also displays food-related tags, such as “Popular” and “Vegetarian.”
Android has finally adopted a feature introduced for iOS in October, giving apps a little box of temperature, weather conditions, and air quality information. Finally, Google teased a new Gen AI feature for its Android users in Maps. The software allows users to ask the app about specific locations they want to visit, and the AI pulls data from reviews, photos, and ratings within the map.
