Google may have been late to jump on board with Generative AI, but it has brought some meaningful improvements to its products. After releasing the Google Bard chatbot last year, the company is using his Generative AI to improve the Google Maps experience. These new AI features are currently rolling out only to Local Guides in the US.
Google Maps now has some Generative AI features
Google has announced that it is bringing Generative AI love to Google Maps for Android. Ask the in-app chatbot questions in natural language and get matching results to help you find and discover new places. Your question may be oddly specific and include all your requirements. Google returns matching results within seconds.
All results are displayed in a new layout that includes a photo of the location in a carousel, its overall rating, and what people have recently said about the location. Additionally, the app remembers your context as you continue to ask questions, so you don’t have to type in your original question each time.
The company says its experiments with generative AI in its Local Guides feature will be something that will be rolled out more broadly into Google Maps in the future, as Google learns a lot from its first use.
