Google announced Wednesday that it is making several photo editing tools powered by generative artificial intelligence free to all Google Photos users.
The company said in a blog post that starting May 15 and over several weeks, it will expand access to AI-powered editing features that were previously only available on its Pixel smartphones and via its Google One cloud storage subscription service. .
Google Photos AI features include Magic Eraser, which removes unwanted objects from your photos. Photo Unblur sharpens out-of-focus images. Portrait light that lets you rebalance the lighting in your photos.
Google said the expansion also brings these features to more devices, including Pixel tablets. Desktop users using Google’s operating system should have a Chromebook Plus with ChromeOS version 118 or later or at least 3GB of RAM, while users using mobile devices should have Android 8.0 or iOS 15 or later. As part of the rollout next month, Google will expand access to Magic Editor features to all Pixel devices. According to the announcement, all Google Photos users on Android and iOS will receive 10 Magic Editor photo saves each month.
