summary

  • Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot, now displays an opt-in message for Android users when launching Google Assistant.
  • Google is working on bringing missing features to Gemini as soon as possible, such as reminders and third-party music providers.
  • Gemini will soon be available in more languages, with support for Japanese and Korean coming next. The chatbot will also be rolled out to more regions in the coming days.

Google Gemini (formerly Bard) has been available on the web for a while, but it wasn’t until last week that the AI chatbot arrived as an app for Android smartphones. But Google didn’t rest on its laurels with Gemini’s rebrand and launch, promising to roll out fixes quickly by leveraging user feedback and adapting accordingly. We saw a glimpse of that over the weekend, as some regions quietly began supporting mobile apps. The Gemini team is back with an update on another change to the chatbot. This includes a popup for users who switch from Assistant to Gemini.

According to Gemini’s product lead: jack kratic, Android users will now see an opt-in message when launching Google Assistant. It’s unclear whether this opt-in popup is similar to the popup that Assistant users saw last week when they switched to Gemini (pictured below).

Meanwhile, Krawczyk added that the team is also looking to provide more clarity about what features are currently available in Gemini and what features are still in development. This is important for first-time users of Gemini who may not know that some features such as reminders, routines, interpreter mode, and third-party music providers are not supported by the chatbot. Krawczyk has given some assurance that Google is working on bringing the missing features to Gemini quickly.

As of this week, we also learned that Gemini has been rolled out to more regions, and that the rollout is expected to continue in the coming days. Krawczyk said Gemini will be followed by Japanese and Korean, followed by additional regions and languages.

Google has no intention of alienating iPhone users from the Gemini craze, with a new toggle for the chatbot appearing within the Google app for iOS. Krawczyk said some tweaks to existing models are also included in the plan, and he encourages users to continue to provide feedback on their Gemini experience.

in spite of Formally Initially limited to the US, several users (including myself) were able to download the Gemini APK and get it working over the weekend, even though previous attempts were fruitless . The basic Gemini experience is free on Android, but the Google One AI Premium plan has an advanced version that costs $20 per month. According to Google, Gemini Advanced excels at “reasoning, following instructions, coding, and creative inspiration.” Ultra 1.0 model. It also has the added benefit of integrating with Workspace apps like Gmail and Docs, with more to come.
