Alphabet Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:Google) announced €25 million in funding from Google.org to support AI training and skills for people in Europe, with a focus on vulnerable and underserved communities.
The tech giant has launched something called the AI Opportunities Initiative for Europe.company will start by investing €10 million to equip its employees with the skills they need to ensure they are not left behind.
Google’s AI Opportunity Fund: Europe, in collaboration with the Center for Public Impact, is inviting applications from social enterprises and nonprofit organizations to help reach those most likely to benefit from training.
The company says selected organizations will receive custom training on basic AI in local languages delivered directly to workers in their region, as well as cash grants for assistance with things like childcare and salary compensation.
Under this initiative, Google is expanding its AI Fundamentals course to 18 languages, and the course is free and available to everyone.
The company added that the initiative also includes a new series of Google for Startups Growth Academies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The equity-free program aims to support startups that leverage AI to solve challenges in health, education, and cybersecurity.
Google noted that this will help startups gain support for their products, increase user numbers, scale, and expand globally.
“However, research shows that the benefits of AI could exacerbate existing inequalities, particularly in terms of economic security and employment.” It will help you develop your knowledge, skills and confidence in your work and ensure that no one is left behind.” Adrian Brown, Executive Director of the Public Impact Center, said:
