Ministers urged to stick to manifesto promise to ban conversion therapy
Ministers are being urged to deliver on their manifesto commitments and support a ban on conversion therapy proposed by Labor MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle.
Conservative MP Alicia Kearns (Rutland and Melton) told the House of Commons: “On 21 January 2023, I enacted an amendment to the (Online Safety Bill) on talking therapy. I said to the Government that if they say on the floor that they will work on pre-legislative scrutiny, which is due to be completed by October, then I will do it, please don’t move the amendment.
“The reason I did not table the amendment was because that promise was given to the House of Commons. He therefore said that, despite the promise he made to Conservative members on the floor of this House, the Government has not changed its manifesto. Do you agree that we were brought here because we failed to fulfill our promise?”
Russell Moyle replied: “I completely agree with you, and that’s why I think it’s important for the Government to support the committee going forward to work out the details.”

SNP widens lead over Labor in Scotland
