Google is working on several new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features for Android devices, according to a new report. Recently, the tech giant added AI-based quick reply suggestions to his Gmail app for Android that automatically suggests relevant replies to your emails. It is said that an email summarization tool will be added to the Gmail app this time. Separately, it has been reported that the Google app for Android will also feature a toggle switch for Gemini, similar to what the iOS app recently received.
Both developments were spotted by X (formerly known as Twitter) tipster AssembleDebug and reported by PiunikaWeb. A report on Gmail app features highlighted that Gmail v2024.03.31.621006929 includes code strings for the email summary feature. In the screenshot, the “Summary” button label is To summarize this email: You can see it placed below the email subject line. Please note that this feature is currently only available to Workspace account holders on the web version of the platform.
The report also notes that the feature is in early testing and nothing happens when you click the button. However, like the web version, when the button works, a window pops up above the email and generates an overview of a single email or the entire thread.
Now, the second in-development feature reported to PiunikaWeb is for Google apps on Android. Currently, clicking on the Google app opens the Discover feed. However, the report shares a video that shows a toggle between Google Search and Gemini AI at the top. Toggling the toggle takes users to the Gemini AI interface where they can use the chatbot to generate content and perform chatbot-specific tasks. The feature is said to be nearing completion and will be rolled out to users around the world in the coming weeks. Since the AI chatbot is multimodal and uses search for internet-based real-time functionality, this functionality can be further tailored to search and lens shortcuts.
Google is actively working on AI capabilities for the Android ecosystem. Gmail previously added a quick reply feature, and now an email summary feature may be coming soon as well. However, while the Gemini AI toggle feature in Google apps is expected to be available to everyone, the Gmail feature will be limited to users who opt for the Gemini Ultra AI model and the Google One AI premium plan, which also provides access to 2TB. There is a possibility. Storage for Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail.
