As you may have guessed by now, even though I’m a long-time iPhone user and will likely upgrade to one of the iPhone 16 models, Samsung is launching a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 this year. Very excited about the prospects. . The reason is actually very simple.
Foldable phone technology has matured to the point where more affordable devices can be manufactured without compromising component integrity.
On the other hand, more expensive foldable smartphones have better battery life and cameras. They are becoming thinner than before. All these innovations will make a foldable iPhone/iPad a reality in the next few years. That’s my ultimate goal.
Price is also an issue, and these devices need to become mainstream so vendors can reduce production costs and pass those savings on to buyers.
That’s why I was so excited about rumors earlier this week that the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 might cost around $800 in South Korea. Now, a new report from Samsung’s home country provides details about Samsung’s plans for foldable devices this year. If that’s accurate, the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be in stores in September. That’s when Apple should launch the iPhone 16 series.
according to The Elec, Samsung could launch its new foldable flagship even earlier this year than 2023. Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 were released in late July last year. This time it may be early July.
According to previous reports, Samsung may be aiming for an early launch as the Summer Olympics start on July 26th. Samsung announced the Fold 5 and Flip 5 on July 26th last year. In early July, two phones will be able to be promoted at matches where Samsung is a major sponsor.
The Elec The launch event date and release date for Galaxy Z Fold 6 have not been disclosed. However, the outlet states that Samsung will mass-produce two flagship foldable models early this year. It is scheduled to go on sale in May, two to three weeks earlier than last year’s model.
Even more interesting are the claims regarding the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6. Apparently, Samsung won’t be releasing this model at the same time as the regular Fold 6 and Flip 5, but rather it will be in stores a few months later.
There is certainly some truth to that claim. Samsung won’t want the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 to eat into sales of its more expensive model. Therefore, the Galaxy S FE model will not be launched together with his Galaxy S model from the same year.
From another perspective, the September launch will be a bold move for Samsung. The Korean giant had launched the Galaxy Note in early September, until the iPhone 6/6 Plus ousted his 2014 Note. Samsung has since moved its summer launch events to August and July.
If the September-October release date is accurate, the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be sold as an iPhone 16 replacement.
The Elec It also provided some details about the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6. The budget model will be even thinner than the premium Galaxy Z Fold 6. Similarly, more expensive foldable models should be thinner than the Fold 5. Finally, the report mentions an affordable foldable model that won’t support the S Pen stylus, a cost-cutting measure mentioned in other reports detailing the cheaper Z Fold 6.
