NEW DELHI: Shashi Khanna, wife of former BCCI acting president CK Khanna, will assume the post of president after the Delhi High Court has ordered elections to several posts in the contested Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). It has become clear that there is a high possibility that the As the state association has been headless for nearly eight months ever since Rajat Sharma resigned over corruption in the association, elections need to be held as soon as possible as per the HC order.
The High Court ordered elections for the posts of president, treasurer and four directors. Chief Secretary Vinod Tihara’s signature authority was also restored. The elections could be interesting as former finance minister Arun Jaitley’s son Rohan is being pursued by the DDCA faction vying for the president’s seat. However, Sharma resigned after completing his 16-month term, meaning his current term will last less than a year. Elections are likely to be held once the coronavirus threat recedes in Delhi.
It is learned that Shashi Khanna may be supported by a lobby consisting of CK Khanna and Tihara. “It will be interesting to see whether Rohan agrees to the contest. Many DDCA members have come to persuade Rohan. Otherwise, Mr. Tihara and Mr. Khanna have a firm grip on DDCA politics. Because of this, it is bound to be a lopsided battle,” said a DDCA official.
Meanwhile, BCCI withheld all funding to DDCA due to irregularities within the association. The BCCI is also considering setting up an ad hoc body to manage the association.
