The Department of Food Science invites you to attend a seminar hosted by Dr. Senai Simsek on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 3:05 p.m. Dr. Simsek will present his research on “Unraveling Carbohydrates: The Inside Scoop on Carbohydrate Function and Laboratory Applications.” At Purdue. ”
Simsek’s research program focuses on value-adding strategies for grains and co-products, integrating grain quality and carbohydrate structure-function relationships. Her group aims to increase the use of grains by developing innovative uses for carbohydrates and fostering partnerships between producers, scientists, and food processors.
Simsek is a professor and dean at Purdue University and holds a Ph.D. He received his PhD in food science from Purdue University. He joined the Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University, where he worked for 15 years before moving to his current position.
She has authored and co-authored numerous research papers and conference contributions in the areas of grain quality and carbohydrate chemistry. In August 2013, Dr. Simsek was awarded the first Bart L. Dapolonia Endowed Professorship in Grain Science and Technology at North Dakota State University. She is the recipient of the International Young Scientist Research Award (2013) and the International Excellence in Teaching Award (2013). 2019) by Cereals & Grains Association. In 2020, Dr. Simsek received the Anderson’s Cereal and Oilseed Excellence Award from the NC-213 American Quality Grain Research Consortium. Recently, she received her 2022 Purdue University Distinguished Alumni Award. Simsek is an inspirational teacher and advisor whose deep understanding of industries and challenges around the world has made her successful research partnerships on a global scale.
