Recent rumors have suggested that a foldable iPhone Flip could arrive in 2026, following the launch of a foldable iPad in 2025. However, a new report from TrendForce (via 9to5Mac ) suggests that may not be the case, with the market research firm claiming that a foldable iPhone won’t arrive until 2027 at the earliest.
According to the report, Apple is still “evaluating component specifications and performance,” meaning the phone is still in the very early stages of development, making a 2026 launch look increasingly unlikely. On top of that, Apple appears to have “strict requirements for creases and reliability.”
Creases are a sticking point on many flip phones, and in some cases have proven extremely difficult to hide. Despite efforts by Samsung and other phone makers, phones that don’t have a crease that’s at least occasionally visible seem to be a rare find.
Needless to say, the crease is a weak point of the screen, and the larger the crease, the more likely it is to be damaged if used for a long time. In addition, there is also the problem that dust and debris can get into the hinge and cause various damages from the inside. Therefore, foldable devices are not the kind of thing that mobile phone manufacturers can rush to develop.
Foldable devices are certainly not something that phone makers can rush to develop.
Of course, Apple is a bit Too A foldable iPhone has been a long time coming — Apple is known for taking its time to develop new products rather than follow trends, and it’s no wonder it wants to avoid the mistakes Samsung made with the original Galaxy Fold — but we’re reaching a point where the wait might be a little too long.
After all, the first foldable phone came out in 2018, and Samsung released the first Galaxy Fold the following year. If the iPhone Flip arrives in 2027, Apple will be almost a decade behind the trend. The only thing Apple still has an advantage over is the slow adoption of foldable phones, which means it has a chance to grab a big share of the market.
We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, but whatever happens, it’s clear that a foldable iPhone Flip isn’t coming anytime soon.
