Over the past few years, Apple has managed to extract more and more market share from Android, to the point where Apple now sells more smartphones than Samsung. However, it is reported that the number of Android users switching to iPhone in 2023 has decreased compared to the previous year.
According to a report from C.I.R.P., 13% of iPhone buyers in 2023 switched from Android to iOS. This is down from 15% in 2022, which was the highest in the past five years. It’s not a huge drop, but it comes at an interesting time, as Apple hasn’t slowed down in any way in recent years in its efforts to maintain its infamous “walled garden” approach to services. 2023 wasn’t a particularly impressive year for Android devices. Most flagships were pretty repetitive, and even the foldable devices had relatively underwhelming results overall.
This 13% figure isn’t all that low either. In 2020 and 2021, this percentage was 11%, which may have been affected by the pandemic. In 2019, it rose again to 13%.
But these numbers show an unsurprising trend: iPhone users are sticking with their iPhones, and Android users aren’t switching as much. While there may be benefits to switching, switching ecosystems often means reinvesting in apps and games and getting used to the different quirks and perks of another operating system, so it’s usually not. is larger when it is negative.
