MULTAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday denied an offer for the post of prime minister, saying that if it were to happen, he would become prime minister through a people’s vote. Stated.
“If the people vote for me, I can become prime minister or president,” Fazl told reporters in Multan, adding that no such offer had ever been made to him.
He wondered who would offer him the top spot.
Fazl, who was the leader of the multi-party coalition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) formed to oppose the PTI-led government, said if the country did not protect its votes, the country would always move towards “slavery”. Told. .
He said the current government is extremely weak as the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is in the government committee but not in the federal cabinet.
“The day there is trouble with the PPP, the government will be in trouble,” the veteran politician said. “I believe there is no government.”
Mr. Fazl further said that his party believes in democracy and wants the rule of law and the constitution.
He said he had no personal animosity towards Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which was founded and ruled by Imran Khan, who came to power after the 2018 general elections.
“We don’t play politics of favoritism. If that were true, we would have been part of the government,” he added.
Continuing his criticism of the 2024 general elections, Fazl said the JUI-F had started campaigning against “rigged” polls even before PTI.
“We will not accept such an election,” he said, calling for a new electoral process.
The JUI-F chief also expressed solidarity with the farmers who suffered losses due to the government’s recent wheat imports.
