Father Hilary Tagliaferro has retained his position as President of the Malta Youth Football Association following an uncontested election during the organization’s recently held annual general meeting.

In his address to delegates, Fr Hilary encouraged clubs to continue their significant contribution to local sport and urged them to find innovative ways to work on a more professional basis.

He said this would ensure that aspiring soccer players attending local nursery schools would continue to receive the best coaching and the level of soccer would rise.

Fr Hilary said: “We believe the time is ripe for a step towards unification of the sport, where more established clubs partner with smaller soccer nurseries to ensure all young players have sufficient playing time.” I will make it possible,” he said.

Last season, Birkirkara Nursery School and Dinglis Swallows Nursery School worked closely together in the U-15 category.

The Youth FA President praised the joint efforts of both parties, while expressing confidence that this partnership will continue to grow.

Luxor St Andrews are moving their youth development program to the south of the country after agreeing a partnership deal with Sta Ruiha.

Meanwhile, the Youth FA is expected to embark on a new project, with plans already in place to introduce an educational program for parents of children involved in the game and nursery school managers.

“The first step will be an Erasmus course in sports administration to be held in Scotland in the coming months,” Fr Hilary revealed.

“EU funds will support us in this project.”

Also not contesting the Youth FA management election were Joe Cassar (Vice-President), Robert Attard (Vice-President), Joe Micallef (General Secretary), and Alfred Caciotro (Treasurer). The elected members are Mr. Charles Cassar (Rabat), Mr. Godwin Aquilina (Sta Venera), Mr. Joe Baldacchino (Mr. Zabbal), Mr. Simon Spiteri (Mr. Mutarfa), and Mr. Paul Vera (Mr. Machar). .

In his detailed report on last season, Micallef said that around 750 games were played in the APS league for U-15 and U-17 teams.

Micallef also announced the winners of the 2015-16 Most Promising Young Player Award.

Honors went to Clive Bouvet (Pieta Hotspurs, Under-15s) and Marcus Grima (St Andrews, Under-17s).

Winners of the Fair Play Award were Floriana (U-15) and Karkara (U-17).
