Smartphone owners must turn on multi-factor authentication or risk being spied on by hackers, experts have warned.
In today’s digital world, protecting your online accounts is paramount.
One way to add an extra layer of protection to your device is to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA).
What is MFA?
MFA protects your account by requiring an additional level of verification, such as text verification, before logging in.
However, SMS messages are vulnerable to interception through various techniques such as SIM swapping and man-in-the-middle attacks.
Additionally, network issues and delays can make SMS unreliable.
For this reason, experts recommend using an authenticator app. Many smartphones and apps have their own built-in 2FA, such as Google, Apple, and Facebook.
On its website, Apple describes 2FA on the iPhone as an “additional security feature designed to “ensure that you are the only person who can access your account, even if someone knows your password.” “Layer”.
These apps generate time-based code directly on your device.
This eliminates the need for external communication channels such as SMS.
It also makes your code much more secure because it’s not sent over Wi-Fi networks that can be compromised.
Additionally, many authentication apps offer additional security features such as PIN and biometrics for an extra layer of protection.
