As previously announced digest, We are currently working on overkill 2.0 and are gradually moving from the design part to the development of new websites. Since you’re one of our most trusted readers, we thought we’d take a quick look at what our home page currently looks like.
It’s obviously still a work in progress, but I’m proud of the direction we’re going. The new design also moves to a new publishing platform, allowing for more experimentation. I’m excited to be able to do new things.

This week is big
Apple finally allows emulators in the App Store. In an unexpected turn of events, perhaps motivated by the legal pressures it faces in the EU, Apple has decided to allow retro game emulators in its App Store.
Until recently, if you had an iPhone and wanted to emulate a game, you had to sideload an emulator using something like AltStore. Of course, thanks to the DMA, Apple is forced to allow third-party stores to be released on the iPhone, but only within the EU. So even if a company like Epic allows emulators on its store, only people within his EU can benefit from it.
But thanks to Apple’s decision, anyone can now play old games on their iPhones, at least in theory, as it’s unclear how far Apple will go. I don’t expect Suyu or any of his alternative Switch emulators to appear on the App Store, as Apple has made it clear in their announcement that these emulators must comply with the following: “all applicable laws”; And we learned from the whole Yuzu story that this law is a bit vague. Because even though Suyu itself isn’t illegal, the appearance of a Switch emulator on the App Store might be a bit too much for Nintendo, and therefore too risque for Apple (and we’re not sure how Nintendo would go about it). I’ve seen how they spin stories that are advantageous to them).
Still, we’ll probably see something like RetroArch or PPSSPP soon (especially since there’s already a version for iOS that can be sideloaded right now). However, I’m also not entirely sure if Apple will allow users to bring in their own girlfriend ROMs.
But despite all these uncertainties, the iPhone is slowly turning into a potential handheld platform thanks to pressure from the EU and the Department of Justice, as well as real competition in the form of alternative stores.
So while I don’t expect Apple to help push this game forward in any meaningful way (they lack the culture necessary for this, but that’s a story for another day). ), emulators, game streaming services, and hardware like BackBone One. And a Netflix game subscription, that gives me hope.
Perhaps in the future you could tell people to get a controller grip for the iPhone instead of suggesting hardware like the Anbernic RG35XX or Miyoo Mini Plus.

(Also, I always feel very suspicious when a company makes a hire right after laying off hundreds of people.)
