Dutch Prime Minister says Europe should stop “complaining about Trump’s inauguration”

Rutte, who is set to become the next NATO secretary-general, said the EU must work with “whoever is on the dance floor”, referring to the upcoming US elections.

“We have to do this because we want to do this, and it’s in our interest. This is very important. And all the whining and whining about Mr. Trump We have been hearing constant groaning for the past few days, but let’s stop that,” he said during a debate at the Security Council in Munich.

Rutte also told conference attendees that there was “no doubt” that a victory in Ukraine could force President Vladimir Putin to “test NATO.” He said he was “cautiously optimistic” that the U.S. Congress would eventually pass significant legislation regarding arms supplies to Ukraine.

Mr Trump is expected to win the US presidential election, as he warned last week that he would encourage President Vladimir Putin to attack North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) members that do not meet the alliance’s spending commitments. It’s ringing the alarm.

German officials said his comments were a clear signal that Europe cannot rely on the United States as a security guarantor if Trump wins.

nuclear deterrence

There are discussions in Paris and Berlin about the EU building its own nuclear deterrent to counter President Putin and compensate for the lack of future US involvement in NATO’s key issues.

However, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that losing faith in the US nuclear umbrella “will only weaken NATO at a time when we really need a reliable deterrent.” He dismissed it as “useless.”

Earlier on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told a conference that he would invite Trump to visit the front lines if he becomes the next US president.

“If Mr. Trump comes, I’m ready to go to the front lines with him,” he said. [about] How to end wars, we must…show decision makers what it means to be not a real war [on] Instagram. It’s a real war. ”

Zelenskiy also noted that the U.S. Congress failed to pass a new spending package for Ukraine before going into a two-week recess. “Everyone remember, dictators don’t go on vacation,” he said.
