Authorities in Palm Beach County, Florida, responded to Donald Trump Jr.’s home on Monday after a death threat and an envelope containing white powder were sent to him.
The Palm Beach County Fire and Rescue Department’s response was first reported by The Daily Beast. A spokesperson for the former president’s son confirmed the incident to NBC News.
A spokeswoman said test results to identify the white substance were inconclusive, but officials at the scene did not believe it was fatal.
A spokesperson for Palm Beach County Fire and Rescue Services referred NBC News to the Secret Service, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday night.
In an interview with the Daily Caller, Trump Jr. said the envelope was “the second envelope of white powder substance that was mailed to me.”
“It’s become a little too common for this kind of thing to happen,” he told the site. “It doesn’t matter what your politics are. This kind of crap is unacceptable.”
Monday’s incident came amid a series of threats against political candidates and public officials.
The New Hampshire man was charged in December with sending threatening text messages to three presidential candidates, including Republicans Vivek Ramaswamy and Chris Christie, and subsequently withdrew from the race. Separately, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, the ex-president’s only major Republican opponent in the Republican presidential primary, was the target of two scuffles around New Year’s Day.
In recent years, several measures have been taken to strengthen the protection of public servants and their families. President Joe Biden signed a bill in 2022 to provide security for the families of Justice Brett Kavanaugh after an armed man was arrested in front of his home.
