Since last fall, I’ve noticed an issue where scrolling through content on a Pixel 8 Pro display would cause strange stuttering. It’s not that bad, but once you’re aware of it, it’s hard not to see it. Some users have complained that the issue is more pronounced on apps like Reddit, Chrome, Play Store, and Google News. Personally, I find it more noticeable on Google News (which I use regularly) and the Facebook app.
The good news is that Google is aware of this issue and has marked it as “fixed” on its issue tracker (as first reported by Android Police).

The bad news is that Google apparently hasn’t fixed the issue with Android 14 (which is currently occurring). Instead, the fix will be delivered in Android 15, which he plans to release in late summer or fall of 2024.

There is no status update for the original post added on October 14, 2023, despite being marked as “fixed.” His five videos that clearly illustrate the issue in his original post are restricted, so only certain users can view them. However, if you scroll through the list of replies to the issue, you’ll see that many users are encountering this issue.
The issue tracking thread has 1 comment (#231) posted from a google.com address (meaning you are an official Google employee). The comment reads: “Continued optimizations for performance and power are planned for the next Android release. This includes system-wide UI junk, as well as positive impacts for use cases related to some Android applications. Includes improvements that can be made.”
This is good news, and we think you can expect significant improvements in performance and responsiveness across the board with Android 15.
