I tried out MUJJO’s new leather alternative iPhone case – MaizCase

MUJJO MaizCase is the brand’s new environmentally friendly cover. It’s made from what the brand calls Italian bioleather, a material made from a blend of corn and other grains and recycled polyester. This is clearly the brand’s attempt to make a really good leather alternative iPhone case, and for my money it did just that. The brand also says that “98% of the water used in production is recovered” to minimize environmental impact.

This case has all the best features of MUJJO leather cases, including machined metal buttons, a perfect fit, MagSafe action, and “premium Japanese microfiber with a satin-like finish.”

Let’s take a closer look at the spec sheet.

It may not be obvious yet, but the only real difference between the fully genuine leather MUJJO case and its new new MaizCase is the main material used. But in this case, that’s a good thing, because MUJJO makes one of his best leather cases, and MaizCase has animal and eco-friendly construction as well.

The recycled machined metal button covers covering the volume, main power, and action buttons (the action button has an actual button cover rather than just a cutout) are exactly the same on this model as on the leather version. It looks great and works perfectly. Same goes for the metal camera bump, Japanese microfiber interior, and overall shape.

Leather vs. Maize

I’ve always been a big fan of leather cases, both for the look and feel and overall durability over time. Personally, I like the way the leather looks when it starts to develop a patina as well as natural scratches and dents. This will leave a scar. However, MUJJO is making a strong case for Italian bio-leather here. The feel is also very nice, it feels a little soft to the touch, almost rubbery, but not that much. I think most people don’t really know which is which. The two people I tried this on both said the MaizCase was a little softer, but both were Italian bioleather and I couldn’t tell for sure which was European. Leather tanned in the Netherlands.

If you look at the two side by side under bright lighting, you will notice slight differences in the texture and grain of the materials. The leather has a slightly tighter grain to my eyes, while the Maiz features a more uniform pattern. Both are very good to me, although you don’t notice them unless you look at them in particularly bright conditions. I may prefer the way maize looks under the microscope, so to speak, but this is also really getting into the weeds.

The only drawbacks I can think of with MUJJO’s latest leather alternative iPhone case are the color and Pro-only options. Unlike the leather case, which comes in four colors, MaizCase’s only option is the brand’s blue steel treatment, which is currently only available for purchase for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. It is worth mentioning that MUJJO tends to soft launch new cases in one color at first and then launch multiple options in the following year or so. We don’t know if this is the case, but there’s a good chance the MaizCase design will arrive in new colors and sizes starting with iPhone 16.

As mentioned above, MUJJO makes one of the best leather iPhone 15 cases, but is this MaizCase still the best leather alternative? Well, for me, it’s certainly in the conversation there is. MaizCase inherits everything that makes MUJJO’s other covers the best (metallic button covers, microfiber lining, just the right shape and fit without being too bulky), and it works really well For me it’s certainly one of the best leathers in terms of giving off a nice leather vibe, considering it offers a particularly soft sheath.

I’m not sure if MUJJO is considering replacing their entire lineup of genuine leather options. And while it’s hard to say how MaizCase will turn out after a few years of heavy use, for now, it’s one of the best leather alternative iPhone cases. Recommended for. We hope the brand offers a wider selection of colors in the future.
