A lawyer and politician has been appointed as the head of Department of Social Welfare and Development-6 (DSWD-6).
Atty. Mr. Carmelo Nocete, board member representing Iloilo District 1, took the oath of office on September 9, 2022 before DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo.
Nochete, a former vice mayor of Miagao, Iloilo, will take over the post temporarily held by Delia Bagolcol.
Mr. Bagolkor was the Deputy Director for Regional Operations of DSWD-6, but was appointed as the Officer-in-Charge of DSWD-6 following Mr. Ma’s promotion. Evelyn Macapobre as DSWD Assistant Secretary.
The previous three regional directors (Mr. Makapobre, Mr. Bagolkol, and the late Rebecca Gemara) are all career service employees who are social workers.
Atty said in a statement. Mae Lago-Castillo, regional information officer for DSWD-6, said she fully supports Nocete’s leadership, just as she supported previous regional directors.
“We will definitely welcome him. We are delighted to have Mr. Ilonggo as our regional director,” she said.
Castillo said his primary concern has always been the welfare and protection of the Ilonggo people.
“We believe this is also a highlight of Secretary Nocete’s leadership in line with DSWD’s vision of ensuring that all Filipinos are free from poverty and have equal access to opportunity,” she said.
