Des Moines’ World Food & Music Festival ranks No. 6 on USA Today 10Best’s new list of America’s top city food festivals.
The annual World & Music Festival will be held in Des Moines in late August and will feature international cuisine, diverse dining options and interactive cooking shows, according to 10Best.
A panel of culinary experts nominated their top picks before readers voted to determine the winners of the list.
Festivals in New York, Greenville, South Carolina and the Minneapolis Food Truck Festival ranked higher than the World Food & Music Festival.
How did the Des Moines World Food & Music Festival begin?

The festival began in October 2005 in Des Moines’ East Village and had about 24 participating vendors, according to its website.
Sponsored by the Greater Des Moines Partnership, the festival has expanded over the years and moved to Western Gateway Park in Des Moines. More than 90,000 guests visit each year to experience, taste and hear all it has to offer.

According to 10Best, the seasonal festival is modeled after Asian open-air night markets and features street food that showcases the borough’s ethnic and cultural diversity.

The 2024 festival will take place on Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. You’ll find plenty of food, drinks, booze, and music at Western Gateway Park.
