A “cash rich” drug dealer was involved in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine and more than 800 drug-related messages were found on his mobile phone.
Shane Smith, 23, from Newport, played a key role in the supply of Class A drugs in South Wales. His mobile phone messages revealed he instructed others to supply drugs on his behalf, offering “money, fuel and meals” as well as “free tests” for crack and heroin.
At a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, June 21, Smith pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Speaking after the inquest, Detective Inspector Short, of Gwent Police, said: “Despite being unemployed, Smith was living a ‘high-five’ lifestyle, going on expensive holidays and buying designer clothes and jewellery.”
“Smith has received a significant sentence as a result of his actions and we hope this will deter others from taking part in this unlawful activity. This is a serious crime that affects everyone and we welcome continued support from the community.”
