Colorado Springs police announced Monday that they have a suspect in custody after two people were fatally shot in a dorm room at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs over the weekend.
The Colorado Springs Police Department announced Monday morning that Nicholas Jordan, 25, of Detroit, was found in a vehicle less than three miles from campus Monday morning and arrested a short time later. Jordan had a warrant out for his arrest on two counts of first-degree murder.
Police identified the victims as Samuel Knopp, 24, a student at the university, and Celie Lane Montgomery, 26, who was not enrolled at the school.
Around 6 a.m. Friday, the UCCS Police Department was called to the scene after gunshots were heard at Crestone House, an on-campus dormitory. Police found two people dead in the room where shots had been fired.

The university police requested cooperation from the city police, who took over the investigation.
The university was placed on lockdown for several hours Friday as police checked to see if there was a shooter on campus. Police are continuing to investigate, but have so far ruled out murder or suicide.
“Investigative efforts to date continue to indicate that this was an isolated incident between known parties and not a random attack on other students at the school or university,” city police said in a statement. .

Universities were closed for the weekend and classes were canceled on Monday.
“As we mourn the loss of Samuel Knopp and Celie Montgomery, I hope that we can come together as a community, support each other, and share our grief,” Premier Jennifer Sobanet said in an email. “You are all alone. Please remember that this is not the case,” he wrote in an email. To the students.
Sobanet said Knopf is “a senior music student and a beloved member of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.”

The shooting occurred a week after another student was killed on campus. The UCCS student newspaper, The Scribe, reported that nursing student Mia Brown died after suffering a medical emergency at the on-campus rec center on the night of February 12th.
