Puma improves his science skills with the help of a special friend. The Sarah Harp Minter Elementary School Science Olympiad team geared up to compete against leaders from Whitewater High School.
For the third year in a row, Whitewater Advanced Science National Honor Society students have volunteered to mentor Minter students as they prepare for the competition. On Friday morning, the Mountain Lions received a visit from a mentor to inspire the Science Olympians and give them a better understanding of the event. The high school students came prepared with hands-on activities and games to reinforce what they had studied in preparation for the county competition.
Many of my mentors came to support their friends at big competitions. They share their love of science with the community through the Whitewater STEAM Bus throughout the year. That passion they inherited has taken past students to middle school and now to compete in the Science Olympiad.
Minter enrichment teacher Stacey McClanahan and first-grade teacher Christy Song team up with Whitewater High School science teachers Kathryn Dupree and Sherry Kozlowski to guide students in collaboration.
“Our collective goal is to inspire a love of science in general and build relationships in the whitewater community,” McClanahan said. “I’m so grateful that the Whitewater students have a desire to build relationships and coach Puma.”
