According to OpenAI’s system status page, ChatGPT is currently down for some users, preventing many from using its Android mobile application and other services.
[Update 02:00]: The status has been updated again, confirming a “major outage” for the ChatGPT service. The only update shared so far is that “we are continuing to work on fixing this issue.”
[Update 01:31]: OpenAI has identified an issue affecting its service that is “mitigating” according to its live platform status page. They hope to restore access within the next few hours.
The outage began at 00:21 PDT Tuesday and prompted numerous complaints. X (formerly Twitter) They claim they can’t launch the chatbot from Chrome. But the issue seems to be most noticeable on mobile: the ChatGPT app on Android is stuck at the login screen, suggesting the outage isn’t limited to just one platform. According to DownDetector, most reported issues are with ChatGPT itself, rather than the website or app.
If you are already connected, you will see an “Internal Server Error” when trying to perform a search or query. Premium subscribers are also experiencing connection issues. Once logged in, I noticed that some queries were generated slowly and caused hallucinations.
For example, when asking for an “overview of recent England matches”, the system took over two minutes to initially respond, and the results were severely out of date, even though this information was correctly captured by other AI-based platforms.
OpenAI’s status page states that “ChatGPT is currently unavailable to some users” and that they are “currently investigating this issue.” At this time, there are no details available on how long the ChatGPT service will be down.
