Central College uses $50,000 grant to research ‘Decision Science’ curriculum • Iowa Capital Dispatch

Central College is considering a ‘Decision Science’ curriculum in the hope that with support from locally based and globally active businesses, students will be prepared for the evolving world of business. To go.

Precision Pulley & Idler (PPI), a Pella-based manufacturing company, will hire Central College to research and develop a decision science curriculum that includes artificial intelligence, analytics and digital transformation, according to a news release. The project was awarded a $50,000 planning grant.

This curriculum connects across different departments within the university and exposes you to areas such as mathematics, computer science, and business. Mary Stray, vice president for academic affairs at Central College, said in an email that elements of decision science already exist in certain schools, and this grant will allow faculty to document them as part of new programs. , said it could potentially be expanded to new courses. .

“Central is extremely grateful for our long-standing partnership with PPI,” Central College President Mark Putnam said in a release. “As we assess and anticipate the needs of the next generation of workforce, PPI planning grants will support faculty and industry professionals in exploring what a decision science curriculum could look like. Our partnerships with industry leaders like PPI pave the way for Central’s future.”

The funding will enable programming that addresses changes in the workplace, new technologies and other changes in businesses and consumers, according to a news release.

“PPI is proud to support Central as it continues to enhance student services that will impact its business now and in the future,” Leslie Johnston, vice president of human resources at PPI, said in a release. states.
